Lochearn Quilting Longarm Machine Quilting Service
Website - http://www.lochearnquilting.co.uk/
I have been a keen embroiderer all my life, all the pictures in Lochearn House have been made by me, and the attic still holds quite a few because, as, we downsized over the years, we ran out of walls!!!! I have done embroidery, tapestry, cross-stitch and appliqué pictures as well as countless other projects.
I became very interested in Patchwork and while surfing the net came across a machine, which changed my life. One of the reasons we moved to Lochearn House was for the double garage, which we converted to a Studio. I bought a Gammill Quilting System and now quilt for other patch workers who make the patchwork tops, send them to me, I put on the backing, add the wadding, quilt them, and send them back.
A couple of years ago I started entering competitions and have done very well. I won a 1st and 2nd at the Scottish Quilt Championship for longarming the first year. This year I received a 3rd for longarming at Birmingham Festival of Quilts, the biggest quilt show in Europe. I then received a 1st and a Judge's Choice from Lillian Hedley at Harrogate, the Great Northern Quilt Show, and another 1st and 2nd at the Scottish Quilt Championship. I was thrilled. I have since gone on to obtain more 1st prizes but now, sadly am too busy to enter the competitions, I no longer teach or give talks for the same reason. I have also appeared in quite a few magazines and articles.
When I first started there were very few longarm quilters and to machine quilt was unheard of and scandalised as “cheating” but over the years I have watched it became very, very popular, it is now an art form in it's own right. I have noticed that people would like to make 4 quilts in a year, not 1 every 4 years.
A lot of my customers stay for the 3-day Bed and Breakfast, book in their quilt and have it quilted while they are here, or drop their quilt off at my studio on their way North for a holiday and pick it up on the way home. I also do a monthly ‘pick up, drop off' service at Purely Patchwork in Linlithgow.
